What It Is

The Polish That Makes Writing Professional

Copy editing works at the sentence and word level: grammar, punctuation, spelling, word choice, consistency (names, terms, capitalisation, numbers), and readability. We apply a recognised style (Chicago by default) and build you a style sheet so your book is internally consistent from first page to last.

It comes after developmental editing and your revisions, and before proofreading — the stage that turns a good manuscript into a polished one.

Questions

Copy Editing FAQ

What's the difference between copy editing and proofreading?
Copy editing improves the writing — grammar, consistency, clarity, and style. Proofreading is the final error-catch on the formatted book. Copy editing comes first.
Which style do you use?
Chicago Manual of Style by default, with US or UK spelling as you prefer. We can follow another style guide on request.
Will you change my voice?
No. We correct and clarify while preserving your tone and style. Anything subjective is queried, not silently changed.
How long does it take?
Usually 2–4 weeks depending on word count and schedule. We confirm in the consultation.
